Lip Enhancement
Fuller lips are a common request and lip enhancement has become one of our more popular procedures.
At Palm Clinic we use hyaluranon fillers like Restylane or collagen for lip enhancement procedures. Botox can also help with older women by reducing the lip lines that cause lipstick to bleed.
Young women often want fuller, more sensual lips. This is easily achieved with dermal fillers like Restylane and collagen.

Fillers are injected into the lips using a very fine needle. A local anaesthetic is used, just like going to the dentist, so there is minimal pain. There is now a new type of dermal filler that contains local anaesthetic in the filler so you may not need a local injection. Ask your Palm Clinic doctor about which would be the best pain relief option for you.
Lip Enhancement Concerns
As women age, lip size commonly reduces due to a variety of factors such as changes to teeth or dentures and loss of collagen and fat in the lips. This often results in a thin lip, particularly the upper lip. Vertical lip lines will often extend onto the lip which results in a loss of definition of the lip border and creates problems with lipstick "bleeding" up the lines.

By restoring lip size, correcting the vertical lines and redefining the lip border the integrity of the lip is restored and this recreates a much more youthful expression and restores vitality to the area. It is important in older women that the oral comissures (lines from the corners of the lips to the outside of the chin) which often cause a sad expression are corrected at the same time. We do this by placing dermal filler under the folds which reduces the shadowing thus restoring a neutral expression to the mouth. Dermal fillers can also be combined with Botox injections to relax muscles around the mouth, softening vertical lines and assisting the corners of the mouth to lift.
Many women who are having this treatment for the first time are anxious that their lips will look too big – like Goldie Hawn in "First Wives Club". At Palm Clinic we generally recommend a modest enhancement at the first treatment and we have found that most women love the new look and request bigger lips on their second treatment. For older women we generally aim to restore the lips to the size they were when you were in your thirties. It can be helpful to bring in a photo of yourself when you were younger so we can match the size.
What to Expect During Lip Enhancement
The dermal fillers, like Restylane and collagen, are injected around the edge of the lips to define the border of the lips more clearly. Fillers can also be injected into the body of the lips to increase their size. Lip shape can be altered if desired creating, for example, more of a central pout by placing more filler in the centre of the lips. Most women however just want to accentuate their own natural shape. The size of the lips can be varied from a modest increase through to large, luscious lips depending on the product and volume used. Rest assured we talk to you at length to find out exactly what size and shape you want before we proceed with treatment. Bringing a photo of the lip shape you like can be useful.
Cost of the Lip Enhancement
There are several dermal fillers available for enhancing lip size. At your initial consultation we will assess which filler is the best for you and discuss likely costs. As a guide, 1 ml of filler is a good starting point for a first treatment and costs $700. More volume may be required if the area surrounding the mouth needs attention or if you desire even larger lips.
At Palm Clinic we are expert in listening to your needs and respecting what you want to achieve. We will do our very best to produce the look you are wishing for. Treatments take around 30 minutes, are always performed under local anaesthetic (unless you request otherwise) and are designed to help you look your very best.
