Volumising

Volumising is a safe, easy and effective way to rejuvenate the face - without the need for surgery or general anaesthetic.

This technique is becoming increasingly popular at Palm Clinic, as our clients discover its subtle yet highly flattering results.

Dr Sarah Hart at Palm Clinic has had volumising injections with dermal filler in the before and after photos below.  In the before photo you can see that under the eyes the cheeks have lost fat and look a little deflated. We have added volume to her cheeks and in the corners of the mouth providing a natural more youthful appearance.  Her lips have been enhanced to give a more pouty look to the centre of the lips.  Dermal filler has also been injected around the eyes which have reduced the lines - this has been achieved without Botox in this area.

Before and after Juvederm volumising

Instead of pulling skin tighter (as in traditional facelifts), volumising simply helps to restore the fullness your skin used to have. This is why it looks so natural.

Volumising can recreate the youthful ‘apple’ in your cheeks, and provide sculpted, gentle curves to your profile. It can also be used to create cheekbones - even if you’ve never had them before!

Who would benefit from volumising?

Volumising is ideal for those who feel their face is losing its youthful contours.

As we age, we lose fat from beneath the skin of the face. (Facial bones also shrink, especially after having teeth removed). This loss of ‘underlying support’ means the skin can appear too big for the face.
This is a common effect of ageing, which typically occurs from about 35 onwards.

You may notice:

  • hollows appearing where the face once had youthful curves
  • the fat disappearing from under the eyes, leaving a tired appearance
  • the cheeks deflating and drooping, accentuating the nasolabial folds (creases running from nose to chin)
  • the jaw may dip down beside the mouth (resulting in a sad or grumpy look)

Before and After Volumising

This patients concern was the shadowing and sunken appearance under the eyes.  By using a dermal filler to provide volume in this area you can see from the after shot that the shadow has gone giving him a much fresher look.

What does the treatment involve?

Volumising is a simple, safe and non-invasive treatment. There is no need for general anaesthetic, or fat harvesting from other areas of the body.

At Palm Clinic, we use hyaluronon fillers such as Restylane for volumising. Hyaluronon is made from a natural carbohydrate that is already present in the body, and that simply decreases with age. This gel-like substance is injected deep under the skin, to the areas required.  The effect is sometimes referred to as the pillow face or pillow cheeks as many celebrities have had this treatment a little overdone.   Most New Zealand men and women prefer a more subtle natural look to their cheekbones. Volumising is a cost-effective alternative to surgery. Palm Clinic is happy to advise you on a personalised treatment plan that suits your needs and budget. As a guide, most clients need between 1-3 ml of product, at $780 per ml, to achieve a contour improvement.

What kind of results can I expect?

At Palm Clinic, we always aim to achieve natural-looking results – and this is particularly easy with volumising! Your face will look rejuvenated, refreshed and more youthful.

For a complete facial rejuvenation, some clients choose to combine volumising with fine line treatments (see our section on Dermal Fillers). You can layer these treatments together over a couple of sessions.

A volumising treatment lasts between 12-24 months, depending on the amount of filler used.

Testimonial

"Recently I had volumising at Palm Clinic.  The results from this procedure have been amazing: it has made an enormous difference to my appearance and the positive comments I have received from friends and work colleagues has been very rewarding.  My friends have been asking me what cosmetics I have started using as they can notice 'something different about me, I am looking so much healthier and refreshed'. I have noticed my work colleagues taking a second glance at me and then passing a comment about how good I am looking, particularly noting that 'I don't look as tired these days'. The procedure itself was not invasive.  The doctors at Palm Clinic made me feel very relaxed and comfortable and their enthusiasm and confidence about the product alleviated any concerns I had prior to the procedure.  After receiving such positive feedback, I would not hesitate to recommend this product."  Erica.
