Sun Damaged Skin
Sun damaged skin is almost inevitable in New Zealand
This is because of our high UV exposure and outdoor lifestyle all year round. Your skin is a living organ made up of millions of cells. Every day thousands of these cells die, fall off, and are replaced by new cells. Unfortunately this natural process can happen slowly and often haphazardly. As a result sun damaged areas and dark sun spots do not shed and fall off – contributing to a dull lifeless complexion.
Palm Clinic treats a range of sun damage and related conditions. Treatments for sun damage are non surgical using a combination of Fraxel Dual, IPL, Elos Aurora, Elos Polaris, microdermabrasion and advanced medical grade skin products and are designed to:
- Even out the colour of the skin
- Reduce brown spots and red veins
- Improve skin texture
- Reduce lines and wrinkles
- Reduce open pores
- Produce younger healthier looking skin
For a quick freshen up of the skin choose microdermabrasion but don't expect the effect to last more than a few weeks. For the best possible results choose Fraxel Dual laser.
What types of sun damage are there?
As most of us age we begin to see small but visible sun damage appearing in our complexion. This may include:
- Sun, or "age" spots, freckles and other brown spots - particularly a problem on the face, neck, chest, hands and forearms. These spots can be easily removed using a variety of techniques at Palm Clinic ranging from home treatment with medical grade skin care and fade creams, microdermabrasion, ELOS Aurora, Fraxel and Photoderm IPL.
- Isolated Dark Spots/Blotchy Skin Colour – are quickly treated with the Photoderm IPL or Elos Aurora. This can be performed in one or two easy treatments. If you have a condition called melasma the best treatment is fade creams and sunscreen. Alternatively the Fraxel Dual resurfacing laser reduces the melanocyte population and is FDA approved for treatment of melasma.
- Excessive Freckles – often a cluster of many highly visible freckles on the face. Photorejuvenation treatment with ELOS Aurora or Photoderm IPL is a good option because it combines removal of the brown spots with reduction of facial veins and collagen stimulation to reduce fine lines.
- "Liver" spots or age spots - generally found on the backs of the hands are removed in a couple of sessions with Elos Aurora, Photoderm IPL or Fraxel Dual fractionated resurfacing laser.
- Rosacea and Redness of the Neck - Rosacea is composed of prominent redness, facial veins and sometimes pimples. Photoderm IPL or Elos Aurora will reduce the red veins and often also the uncomfortable flushing that can be triggered by heat, alcohol, exercise or spicey food.
- Wrinkles – Palm Clinic offers a range of treatments for wrinkles including Botox, collagen, hyaluranon fillers, medical grade skin care, Fraxel resurfacing laser and Elos Polaris.
- Broken capillaries are treated with Photorejuvenation with Elos Aurora or Photoderm IPL.
- Enlarged pore size on the skin is treated with the Fraxel Dual resurfacing laser.
- Sagging skin is a common concern starting as early as the thirties in some people but more characteristic of the forties and beyond. This can now be improved non surgically by the skin tightening laser Elos Polaris. This laser means no down time and a gradual improvement over the course of five treatments. Botulinum toxin placed in muscles that pull down on the face can further enhance the lifting effects of the Elos Polaris skin tightening laser.
At Palm Clinic we have 5 different laser/IPL/Elos systems that are capable of treating all types of sun damage. The Fraxel Dual laser is capable of resurfacing the skin removing brown spots and wrinkles. ELOS Aurora and Photoderm IPL treat the red veins and improve the texture of the skin and Elos Polaris is an effective skin tightening laser if your main concern is sagging of the face and jowls. Our Coolglide laser is used for large red veins on the face.
Because our laser operators are very experienced you can be assured that you will receive the best solution for your skin. Before treatment you will be assessed by an experienced appearance medicine physician who will formulate a "treatment plan" personalised for you.
