Laser Treatments

If you are looking for laser experts under direct medical supervision who can offer the most state of the art laser treatments then make an appointment at Palm Clinic in Remuera, Auckland.

Laser safety is a prime concern at Palm Clinic.  All our doctors and nurses operating the lasers or IPL systems are highly trained professionals.  All practitioners are certified for Laser Safety.  Our doctors are involved with training other doctors in the use of lasers.

Laser costs vary depending on the laser or IPL machine which is used and the problem you require treating.  At an initial consultation we will fully explain your laser or IPL options along with other treatment options that may help.  We will then write a personalised treatment plan which will identify the costs and the number of treatments required.  Advice sheets on pre-treatment requirements and post treatment expectations will be provided along with a consent form which will detail all possible risks discussed at the consultation.

Most laser treatments require that you do not have a tan, as the melanin pigment in the tan, can preferentially "grab" the laser or IPL energy and could cause a burn.  Most laser treatments are therefore best carried out in Autumn and Winter unless you have meticulously protected yourself from the sun with SPF 15+.

All ethnic skin types may be treated however the darker your skin type the greater the risks with some of the lasers. Most patients who have Maori, Pacific Island, Chinese, Indian or Mediterranean skin types will require pre-treatment with a cream called hydroxyquinone which helps to suppress melanin production.  Despite this there is a greater risk of hyperpigmentation (darkened skin) or hypopigmentation (lightened skin) following treatment.  Hydroxyquinone is a prescription which can be provided at Palm Clinic.  Generally hair removal does not require pre treatment because the laser used for this has a 1064nm wavelength that is not absorbed at the surface of the skin where the melanin is.
