Palm Clinic offers liposuction in Auckland, New Zealand for body contouring. Dr John Barrett has completed over 1000 cases of liposuction involving over 2000 body areas making him one of the most experienced liposuction practitioners in New Zealand.
Liposuction vs Liposculpture
The particular type of liposuction that Dr John Barrett uses is called liposculpture using local anaesthetic (tumescent anaesthetic) and microcannulas for minimum downtime - back to work in three days only. Dr John Barrett of Palm Clinic trained with Dr Jeffrey Klein in California who invented the tumescent liposculpture technique. Genuine liposuction before and after photo's are available in the Before & After Image Gallery and at the initial consultation.
Dr Barrett also trained with the originators of liposuction, Dr Giorgio Fischer from Rome and Dr Pierre Fournier from Paris. Liposuction has been continually refined in both Europe and America and is now the world's most popular cosmetic surgery procedure.
Modern liposuction though really came of age when transformed by Dr. Jeffrey Klein of San Juan Capistrano in California. Since 1985 he has developed what is now called the tumescent technique in which a local anaesthetic solution is used to numb the tissue before the procedure is commenced. This solution also vastly reduces the amount of bruising after the procedure, which used to be a major complication of conventional liposuction surgery.
Areas of the Body suitable for Liposuction/Liposculpture
As you can see from the diagram on the right, liposuction can be performed on virtually any area of the body. For women the most popular areas for liposuction are tummy, hips, waist, thighs and breast reduction. For men the most popular areas for liposuction are abdomen, love handles and chest reduction.
Refined Contour with Liposculpture
Much more refined results are possible with tumescent liposuction (often referred to as liposculpture) than with conventional liposuction. As the patient can stand towards the end of the procedure final adjustments can be performed which improves the overall result. The figure can be truly sculpted. Liposuction has a high rate of patient satisfaction and most people can return to work in three days and only need to wear the garments in the majority of cases for three days.
Different Techniques of Liposuction
In some cases of liposuction a laser, vaser or ultrasound may be used to assist the liposuction practitioner by making the fat easier to remove. These techniques add additional cost to the procedure and require larger incision sites and can be associated with more risk such as burns, seromas and infection. Dr Barrett prefers to use liposculpture unassisted by such technology as he believes it allows him more precision, better sculpting and less risk to the patient.
At the initial consultation Dr Barrett will assess your concerns, examine you and make recommendations on what would be the best areas to treat for maximum outcome. He will explain the post liposuction requirements, the risks of liposuction and go through a full consent process. He will also provide you with an accurate quote of costs for liposuction based on his findings. At the end of the consultation you should have all the information you need to go away and consider whether you wish to proceed. You are welcome to email further questions to Dr Barrett or one of his liposuction nurses. At no time will you feel under pressure to proceed.
Costs of Liposuction
Costs of liposuction or liposculpture vary enormously depending on the combination of areas requested, the patients weight and the likely length of the procedure. In some situations if there a lot of areas to treat you may need more than one treatment. It is therefore sensible to have an initial liposuction consultation at a cost of $160 which may include an ultrasound assessment for areas such as ankles and calves or for breast reduction so that an accurate quote may be given before deciding to proceed. At Palm Clinic we hold the liposuction quote for six months so you are not rushed to make a decision.
