Liposuction to Calves

Calves may be large due to well developed muscles but in many women large calves are due to excess fat.

Liposuction of the calves can remove the excess fat and sculpture the lower leg.  This is generally performed in conjunction with the ankles in a procedure called liposculpture performed by Dr John Barrett at Palm Clinic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who suits ankle or calf liposuction?

Any woman who has fullness to the lower part of the lower leg may benefit. If your legs look full at the bottom or there is poor definition of the achilles tendon, then liposuction may well help.

Is it permanent?

Yes, improvement in the shape and reduction in the volume of the ankle and calf area is permanent.

Are there any scars?

There are usually 2-3 small 2mm wide access holes at the base of the ankle. These are not sutured after the procedure and heal quickly afterwards.

What support garments are required?

A special stocking is used to the middle of the upper thigh after ankle and calf liposuction. This area is prone to swell following the procedure and the stocking is usually required for a period of four weeks which is much longer than the time required for other areas of the body.

How long does the procedure take?

Most procedures for the calves and ankles take from between 2 to 3 hours.

How much time will I need off?

In general you should plan on returning to work on day three. It would be about four weeks before normal gym activities or jogging should be restarted.

What other areas are treated at the same time?

Many women also have a problem with fullness over the knee and sometimes also the thigh. These can be treated at the same time or separately.
