Accordion Lines

Accordion lines are the large smile lines that extend outside the lips to the cheeks.

They tend to be prominent in people with large mouths and in those people who are on the thinner side.  Accordion lines appear because of the muscle action of the large orbicularis oris muscle which surrounds the mouth.

Accordion lines are treated well by volumising with dermal fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, Perlane and Fortelis.  Botox does not work for accordion lines as any weakening of the muscle could lead to drooping of the mouth.

The next step after dermal fillers would be to consider a facelift or S-lift procedure with a plastic surgeon.  At Palm Clinic we prefer the more natural appearance of volumising with dermal fillers.
