Blepharoplasty
The eyelids can be one of the first areas on the face to show the effects of ageing.
The most common problems are: puffy-looking upper eyelids, an overhang of upper lid skin, and the appearance of 'bags' in the lower lids.
Eyelid surgery (also known as 'blepharoplasty') can improve the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids, by removing excess skin and fatty tissue. This gives a more rejuvenated appearance to the area around your eyes - making you look more rested and alert. It can also improve your visual field. Blepharoplasty is performed by a plastic or opthalmic surgeon and would require referral.
It is important to understand that there are also a number of non surgical procedures that can improve the area around the eyes. These can include Botox to reduce crows feet and elevate the eyebrow, dermal fillers to soften lines and soften the tear trough shadowing, laser resurfacing procedures to reduce lines under the eyes, pigment reducing creams to reduce dark shadowing.
For a full discussion of your surgical and non surgical options make an appointment with a Palm Clinic appearance medicine physician.
