Breast Enhancement

Breast Enlargements or Breast Augmentations are safe and popular operations which enhance the size, shape and symmetry of the breasts.

Modern polyurethane surfaced cohesive silicone gel implants greatly reduce the old implant problems of capsular hardening, rotation or downwards displacement. Experience shows that these implants last for decades and stay soft and natural. The operation does not cause or affect the detection of breast cancer.

Many patients will complain of small, saggy, empty breasts-they want more fullness in the upper part of their breasts. Higher projecting (high profile) Round or new Conical Implants will correct these features which are all the more evident after weight loss or breast feeding. If the breasts are very low one may have to consider a simultaneous or staged breast uplifting as well.

All of this occurs through incisions hidden in the lower skin crease or in the areola margin. A Breast Enlargement operation will take about 50 minutes and many patients choose to be day cases only. Soft drainage tubes may be used for the sub muscular implant placement but worry not-these slip out easily and painlessly before the patient leaves hospital. Dissolving sutures (stitches) and skin glue seals the incision, protect against infection and give a strong closure. A post op bra is provided as part of your hospital package and you may need up to ten days off work. You will see your final result about six months later when all swelling has subsided.

Having breast implants in place makes breast lumps easier to feel as the implants always push the breast tissue forwards. These patients may still have mammograms or ultra sound breast scans but MRI scanning is the best way to look at Implants and Breast Tissue. Interestingly, patients with Breast implants may have a lower incidence of Breast Cancer but where there is a personal or family history of Breast Cancer we recommend pre operative Breast Screening just to be safe and look after our patients’ best interests.
