As women age lips typically become smaller, particularly the upper lip.  Common reasons for a reduction in lip size are loss of bone mass, changes in dentition, smoking and general ageing.

Treatments to Enhance Lip Size

At Palm Clinic we use Dermal Fillers like Juvederm for lip enhancement procedures. Lips can be enhanced by putting extra volume directly into the lips, around the edge of the lips (vermilion border) or directly under vertical lines that cause lipstick to bleed. We choose the filler to fit the purpose; a softer, finer filler for a subtle enhancement, and a firmer more voluminous filler for a more noticeable result. At top of our minds at all times is to achieve a natural, rejuvenating result. It should never look like you've had work done. 

Young women often want fuller, more sensual lips. An appropriate increase in lip size is easily achieved with dermal fillers like Juvederm and Perlane. Older women often have the lip lines treated at the same time as a subtle enhancement of lip size to maintain a natural, youthful appearance.

BOTOX can also help women with vertical lip lines caused either by smoking or pursing the lips during conversation. The latter tends to happen more in women with large mouths because they have a larger muscle around the lips which buckles more easily. Botulinum toxin works by slightly weakening the muscle around the lips so the muscle doesn't buckle so easily therefore the lip lines are not reinforced.

Managing Pain during Lip Enhancement Procedures

Fillers are injected into the lips using a very fine needle. Modern dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic in the filler so you may not need a local anaesthetic injection. Sometimes just using ice before the injections is enough.  There are also numbing creams available. Ask your Palm Clinic doctor about which would be the best pain relief option for you when having lip size treatments.

"Natural" Increase in Lip Size

Be assured we are interested in natural results which will vary with your age and other facial characteristics.  We do not do the "trout pout" but for younger women who want a more sensual lip an increase in lip size can be performed in a very natural way.

Men's Lip Size

Some men have a thin lip which make them look more severe than they would like.
