Arm liposuction

Arm liposuction

Droopy upper arms are a very common problem.  Mostly this is caused by excess fat in the upper arms and this can be easily removed with liposuction.

Occasionally the droopiness is caused by loose skin alone but this is more common in the elderly.

Access to the fat is obtained through two tiny holes on either side of the elbow which allows clearance of the fat.  Occasionally there is a need to clear fat from in front of and behind the armpit area.

A tight fitting garment needs to be worn for a few days after the procedure so it is often best to treat this areain the autumn or winter.

You can return to work within three days but can expect some swelling and variable bruising for up to three weeks.

Arms can be combined with other areas of the body so that more than one area of liposculpture can be performed at the same time which reduces the liposuction cost.

Liposuction to the knees

The knees are a commonly requested area for liposuction.  Generally I perform liposculpture to the inside of the knees but I can also do above the knees as well although this can be trickier.

I usually combine the knees with liposculpture to the inner thighs so the leg looks in proportion.  I only need one small entry hole for the knee so scarring is not an issue.

How big is the Botox injection needle?

Our clients are always surprised how tiny the Botox injections are.  As you can see from the photograph, it is an extremely fine and small needle. Injections are into the relevant muscles which lie just under the surface of your skin.  Each little injection is a little stingy - like pulling out a fine hair slowly with tweezers. You can go straight back to work, and women can have mineral make-up applied immediately afterwards.  No one will know, not even your partner nor friends!

What are the most common areas that people have liposuction?

In my practice the most common areas I treat with liposuction or liposculpture for women are the abdomen, hips and outer thighs.  In men the most common areas are the abdomen, lovehandles and chest.  Other common areas include breast reduction, ankles and calves, knees, buttocks, arms, and the mons pubis.

Varicose eczema

Varicose eczema occurs in around 10% of people who have varicose veins.  It often starts with dryness of the skin which causes itching.  As the eczma develops the skin becomes more itch and irritated with a flaky or scaly red rash or dermatitis.

The varicose eczema typically lies over the varicose vein itself and usually presents on the lower leg but can affect other areas of the body in some individuals.  The most common area for the eczema is on the shin or calf.

Varicose eczema can be treated with topical corticosteroid creams but this does not solve the problem.

Thinning the face!

Botox for masseter muscle in Asian patients

Thinning the face is a common request from Asian patients in particular.  Asian patients with a round face want to have a more chiselled and thinner appearance to the face.  If the roundness is caused by a prominent masseter muscle (the muscle which is used to clench the teeth) then the face can be easily thinned using Botox to diminish the size of the masseter muscle.

Sometimes the masseter muscle is over developed because of bruxism (clenching or grinding the teeth) and Botox can be used to weaken the muscle to lessen the bruxism.

Flight socks

Why wear them?

Flight sox are recommended for anyone flying for over four hours as there is a well documented increase in DVT (deep vein thrombosis) on long haul flights.  Flight socks significantly reduce the risk of DVT as they aid the return of venous blood from the lower legs to the heart.

Body of two halves?

Body of two halves?

Many women complain that they have a body of two halves - usually a trim upper body and a plumper lower body - variations of the classic "pear shaped" body.  This is typically genetic due to having fat cells in the lower half of the body which preferentially attract fat.  This results in the lower half of the body putting weight on first and being the hardest area to take weight off, often despite reasonable diet and good exercise levels.

Liposuction or liposculpture is ideal for this type of figure as we are literally able to sculpture the body by removing fat from the troublesome areas to enable women to buy clothes off the rack - often for the firsttime in their lives

Juvederm dermal filler

Juvederm is a dermal filler manufactured by Allergan who also make Botox.  At Palm Clinic Juvederm is our most popular dermal filler but we also use other dermal fillers such as Perlane, Esthelis, Fortelis and collagen products when required.

Juvederm has a range of dermal fillers such as Refine, Ultra, UltraPlus and Voluma.  Basically these products vary in their viscosity so that the finer versions such as Refuine and Ultra are used for fine lines and the more viscous Ultra Plus and Voluma are used more for volumising to restore a more youthful shape to the face.

Trusted Botox and Dermal Filler Clinic

How do I find a good clinic that I can trust for Botox and Dermal Fillers?

Botox and dermal fillers can provide the most natural pleasing results or they can simply look wrong.  It often depends on the aesthetic eye of your practitioner and his or her expertise and training. Choose a clinic which has medically qualified Dr’s and Nurses, who are experienced in a wide range of treatment options, and trained to advanced levels. All doctors at Palm Clinic are Fellows of the New Zealand College of Appearance Medicine (NZCAM) and Dr John Barrett, the medical director of Palm Clinic was the Foundation President of NZCAM.
