Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation is an exciting procedure designed to produce younger healthier looking skin
By reducing brown pigment, facial veins and rosacea and stimulating your own natural collagen production, all this is achieved using the Photoderm IPL and Elos Aurora with no downtime. While photorejuvenation may sound like a laser treatment, it is not a laser. IPL stands for 'Intense Pulsed Light'. Using the Photoderm IPL we can select from multiple wavelengths of light (unlike lasers which use one continuous light wavelength).

We can enter into the computer your skin colour, body area and skin type to generate specific settings for your skin. During treatment multiple wavelengths of light enter the skin concentrating their energy at different levels. This allows us to treat many different problems. The Elos Aurora is more modern version of the Photoderm IPL and has added radiofrequency energy to enhance the effects of the Intense Pulsed Light.

Photorejuvenation can reverse visible signs of aging on those most prominent of places: hands, neck, upper chest and face. As most of us age we begin to see small but visible sun damage appearing in our complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions About Photorejuvenation

What areas can be treated with Photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation by Photoderm IPL or Aurora ELOS can treat:

  • Redness and brown pigmentation of the neck
  • Freckles and dark spots
  • Pigmented brown spots
  • Sun spots
  • Broken capillaries
  • Sun damage
  • Facial veins
  • Rosacea

What are the benefits of Photorejuvenation?

Unlike ablative laser therapy it attacks the problem from the inside leaving the outer skin completely intact. Because skin is left completely intact the top layer doesn't need to reform meaning you can immediately apply makeup and go about your everyday activities.

Photorejuvenation is the only procedure that can treat vascular redness, pigmented brown spots, sun damage and collagen structure all at once.

What should I expect during the procedure?

During treatments light energy is sent through the outer skin - the epidermis- and energy is concentrated in the dermis, the deeper part of the skin. Because the light generates heat it stimulates cells in the skin to form collagen (as much as 20% more). The light energy also targets facial veins and brown spots, selectively heating them to reduce their appearance on the skin.

Photorejuvenation takes around 45 minutes for the face.

What should I expect after the procedure?

Afterwards there is a red flush. It goes away in an hour or two. You can apply make-up straight away and can go back to work. Brown pigment goes very dark then flakes off over 7-10 days. Rarely a bruise or blister can appear after treatment, healing over 7-10 days. Most people do not require anaesthesia but if required we suggest coming in 30 minutes before the treatment and we can apply a topical anaesthetic cream.

What is the cost of Photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation will take 5-6 treatments 3 weeks apart at a cost of NZ$750 per treatment for a full face or neck. Hands are $400 per treatment.
